Dr Mai Bui has 12 years of experience in research on carbon capture and storage (CCS). She is a principal consultant at Foresight Transitions and is a Senior Research Associate at Imperial College London. Dr Bui is a Senior Research and Insight Manager at UK Research and Innovation (UKRI) for the Industrial Decarbonisation Challenge. She is a member of the CCUS Early Career Professionals Forum, part of BEIS in the UK. In these different roles, Dr Bui provides her expertise on clean energy and carbon management solutions to clients in the private and public sectors. She also contributes to the development of CO2 removal methodologies for MRV in her role as an Advisory Board member for Puro.earth, which aims to create a voluntary carbon removal market. She explores the techno-economic deployment potential of CCS technologies in a range of different applications, including power, industry and for CO2 removal from the atmosphere, including bioenergy with CCS, or direct air capture. She has first-hand experience in modelling and designing experimental test campaigns for flexible operation at pilot and demonstration CO2 capture plants, including CSIRO’s pilot plant at the Loy Yang power station (Australia) and the TCM CO2 capture facility (Norway). In 2021, Mai and her co-authors were awarded the Junior Moulton Medal by the Institute of Chemical Engineers (IChemE) for their research on CCS. Since completing her PhD in early 2016, Mai has published 25 journal papers, several technical reports, book chapters and two edited books on Carbon Capture and Storage and Greenhouse Gas Removal Technologies.
