Ian McCluskey

Ian McCluskey

Ian is the Head of Technical and Policy at the Institution of Gas Engineers and Managers (IGEM). He is also a Chartered Engineer and is a Fellow of both IGEM and the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE). Ian has 36 years gas industry experience and is a Director of the Gas Industry Safety Group. Ian currently sits on a wide variety of industry committees, expert panels and working groups covering upstream and downstream gas engineering.

Ian is a member of the Royal Academy’s National Engineering Policy Centre for Net Zero. He is the IGEM lead on the DESNZ Hydrogen Standards and Skills for Heating programme delivering new standards for downstream engineers. Ian manages the IGEM Hydrogen Committee which brings together expertise from industry and academia working on hydrogen matters relating to health and safety, standards, best practice guidelines for operations and support regarding Safety Cases, COMAH, HAZOP surveys and planning. He has an excellent understanding of the challenges for decarbonisation of the energy system and is passionate about engineering a sustainable gas future.
