Marieke Beckmann is Research and International Strategy Lead for Energy and Environment sector at the National Physical Laboratory (NPL). The sector’s mission is to develop, maintain and apply a national science, measurement and metrology capability to firstly transition energy needs towards helping to deliver UK climate commitments; and secondly to assure a sustainable relationship with our environment. Marieke leads the strategic research function for the sector, that creates analysis of and thought leadership on the role of measurement. Marieke heads up key stakeholder engagement which enable NPL’s Energy and Environment Strategy to be implemented nationally as well as internationally and works with scientists across the laboratory to achieve this. She is a member of the UK’s Advisory Board for the UK’s All-Party Parliamentary Climate Change Group. Previously, Marieke lead the Centre for Carbon Measurement team at NPL.
Prior to joining NPL in early 2013, Marieke worked at CDP (previously the Carbon Disclosure Project), focusing on data quality of corporate climate data. She was also previously at the Centre for Environmental Policy at Imperial College London and the Asian Institute of Technology, Thailand, and holds an MSc in Environmental Technology from Imperial College London.
