I joined Pilkington / NSG in 1995 as a Manufacturing Engineering apprentice at our glassmaking operations in St. Helens.
In 2001 I moved into R&D and have to date worked in modelling & simulation, materials, flat glass, and decarbonisation technology teams providing analytical support and R&D project management, supporting our Architectural and Automotive businesses. I did have a 2.5 year spell from 2007 in our downstream ‘structural glass’ operational business working as a design engineer.
I am a professional engineer, a member of the Institute of Mechanical Engineers since 2004.
I have a masters in Advanced Materials from Cranfield University.
I have worked in R&D management since 2017 when I became a team leader, before my current role as Global Portfolio Manager from 2022.
The R&D project portfolio I cover is related to our flat glass technology division; new glass products (compositions), and process development/manufacturing improvements to our lines to deliver decarbonisation, quality or efficiency improvements, and operational cost savings.
