Rob is a Senior Consultant with Poten’s Advisory Marine & Shipping practice. He has over 32 years of experience in the maritime industry, with the last 14 years dealing with LNG, LPG and other liquefied gases. Before joining Poten, he was the Principal Technical Adviser with the Society of International Gas Tanker & Terminal Operators (SIGTTO) responsible for developing many of the current industry guidance publications, including work associated with CO2 shipping and use of LPG and ammonia as fuel. In support of this work, Rob was also actively involved with the review and drafting of interim guidelines for LPG and ammonia as fuel for both IGF and IGC Code vessels in the IMO Sub-Committee on Carriage of Cargoes and Containers (CCC). During this time, he worked extensively with other industry NGOs such as ICS, OCIMF and SGMF on these issues and maritime safe decarbonization. Prior to SIGTTO, Rob was involved in LNG shipping operations as BG-Group’s Fleet Operations Manager and as a Chevron secondee to the Angola LNG project as Marine Technical Manager. As Marine Technical Manager he had oversight of all Charterers’ technical interests during design, construction and into operation of the seven dedicated project LNGCs. He has several years of shipyard project management experience dealing with bidding and executing repair and conversion projects on various ship types and has sailed as a licensed engineering officer onboard clean product and crude oil tankers.
Rob holds a BS in Marine Engineering from the California Maritime Academy and was a commissioned officer in the US Navy Reserve achieving the rank of Lieutenant Commander. He is a Fellow with IMarEST (The Institute of Marine Engineering, Science and Technology) and RINA (The Royal Institution of Naval Architects).
