RWE Is the leading power generator in the U.K and a leading renewables developer. Generating enough power for around 12 million homes with a diverse portfolio of wind, solar, hydro, biomass and gas
The UK plays a key role in RWE's strategy to grow its renewables portfolio and to become carbon neutral by 2040.
Between 2024 and 2030, RWE has an ambition to invest €8 billion net in developing new green technologies and infrastructure to support the energy transition in the UK. In the UK RWE directly employs around 3,100 people in the UK, plus many more indirectly.
RWE aims to build, own and operate green hydrogen production facilities, with a target to develop 2 gigawatts of green hydrogen by 2030 across our core markets, including the UK. RWE is one of the few companies that can play a role in all stages of the hydrogen value chain, from renewable electricity generation to hydrogen production and storage, through to distribution to industrial customers. In the long-term, we are also positioned to be a potential off-taker of low-carbon hydrogen for firm, flexible power via our fleet of gas-fired power stations. RWE is actively developing ~500 MW (megawatts electrical) of green hydrogen across the UK.
In addition to our hydrogen development RWE is currently considering four potential carbon capture projects across the UK. As the largest operator of gas-fired power stations in the UK, we are looking at carbon capture technology as a viable way to decarbonise our gas power stations located within the vicinity of proposed CO2 networks or shipping facilities. At these locations the captured CO2 could be transferred to a third party for safe sequestration and storage. This would enable cleaner, low carbon electricity generation.
