Alistair Macfarlane was appointed Head of UK Carbon Transportation & Storage at the North Sea Transition Authority (NSTA), in January 2023.  

His current role involves leading the NSTA’s UK Carbon Transportation and Storage Team who have responsibility for evaluating and consenting to Co2 storage permit applications. 

Other responsibilities include providing technical guidance to DESNZ and collaboration on CCS with other government regulators and he is the co-chair of the North Sea Transition Steering Committee’s CO2 Transportation and Storage Task Force His work also comprises the management of teams who review submissions and applications of licences for CCS.
